Born To Dance

I danced a dance, not danced before,
the masses beamed in admiration.
Flames of passion slid along the dance floor,
as my body floated like a possessed butterfly.

But the gingerbread people, old, fat and fickle,
pointed fingers asking for me to dance no more!
Their envious eyes burned with jealousy,
as they were incapable of coping with my fire.
Afraid I would pour hot water on them,
they began to shun me against the masses.
The ignorant followed suit, but the dancers knew better.

Hypocritical gingerbread people then began to dance,
their moves had no co-ordination, no rhythm,
it was sadly a pathetic display of imbecilic prancing!
The masses laughed and mocked, poor hypocrites,
crumbling gingerbread', crumbled into pieces,
their taste so sour, crowds puked with antipathy!

Hypocrites still try to dance today,
guess practice makes perfect - right?
I continue to dance my dance,
in a rainbow of styles, bringing delight.

When you are born to dance,
the heart will make those feet move!!

If they are made of gingerbread you ought to eat them, lol, (always people spreading negative energy) don't let it deter you from being who you are and sharing with the world the best part of you. Thanks for sharing Jazmin M

The gingerbread people have not found their dance ... too concerned with how others express their passion. Your love can't be contained nor trounced on by the hypocrites ... and they will always exist. Dance on beautiful spirit!

I like the message in your poem Yaz.. A hypocrite will always be a hypocrite, telling you not to do something, but doing it themselves... Yet very badly... Jealousy will always be there when another is doing so well... You are a perfect example how you can overcome such negativity and do well in life.. Great write..

Dance is the result of the collaboration of soul and body in an effort to express our mood! A profound poem examining the depths of our being and an analysis of character so very well done my friend, Yasmin!

Very original write Yazmin and so true. Usually those that have no talent are the ones to point a finger, disparage and belittle. But belief in ones self makes one rise above the crumbs of uncoordinated 'gingerbread' bourgeoisie - a well deserved FAVE from me ...Maria :)

I am a retired professional dancer and choreographer dear Tom. When I first started, I had many obstacles to overcome, this included jealousy and also sexual harassment. Today I stand tall, proud of what I have achieved. Thank you for you support :)

WOW! This is so brilliantly written. I love the metaphorical depiction ...the gingerbread people, as you say, are no match for the genuine ones.
