Notes About The Poem

Bittersweet Reunion - Emotive Write

I sat and watched the drama unfold on the TV Wondered what I’d do if it had happened to me ... Just seventeen and pregnant, when her boyfriend is killed Frances is so heartbroken and many tears are spilled She places an ad for someone to adopt her son Then interviews couples to choose the right one After many years her son tries to trace his birth mum He discovered she’d died and he looked terribly glum But he finds a half brother; he lived one mile away! Their reunion on TV was such a special day Sadly within a few weeks one of the brothers died I read it in the newspaper; then I sat and cried Bittersweet Contest Sponsored by Kevin Shaw A true story based on a TV programme called 'Long Lost Family' and also a newspaper article I found on the internet http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/niece-man-who-died-weeks-11044570 09-03-17

Great poem Jan. Yours is definitely bittersweet as well. It is hard to limit it to twelve lines but you have done it perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, this is a sad story, Jan. Best to you in the contest. Thanks for the stop by. Spent Summer is one of my better lyrics about New England seasons. It's included in my hopefully published book "Once Upon a New England Boy." Many thanks. / M

All those years spent without knowing they lived so close together was sorrowful...but it would've been even more sad if they'd not had those few weeks together. Your emotions are displayed through your soft heart, Jan. ;-)

Watching the programmes are so sad Lin, they try to trace relatives for 2 people in every episode and the stories of why they lost contact with their children is quite heartbreaking. Without the contest prompt I would never have written the story and it was a challenge to condense it into just 12 lines:-( hugs jan xx
