Birth of a Poem

when feelings throttle my heart when memories whizz past like flash floods I sit drowsy in yawning dawns trapping all drunken thoughts bustling to be winged. Then a poem is born!

Wonderful poem Valsa! I am dropping by for a visit as I am again not on site much! My poems are often written in haste on a notebook paper or my journal, on the fly as they unfurl, maybe someday I will be able to be back on here more often and post them, we'll see :) Love your poem <3

I'm guessing most poets can recognise their own writing processes here. :) I'm often intrigued by how thoughts and ideas can just spontaneously come into the mind ("flash floods") and then the brain takes over and makes you think deeper about them - if you can keep hold of those thoughts and ideas that is. If they come at night for me then by morning I've usually forgotten them all. Loving the idea of a poem about the birth of a poem Valsa :)

Just a tiny spark or an idea sets the wheels in motion for a poem to be born. Good luck in the contest Valsa. Tom

Yes, it is like that. I always write in bed, lying down, using pencil for ink floods back. Cat is next to me, probably wondering why I bother when we could be out hunting. Little does he know, I am hunting composition. Clawing into paper, till it drips poetry.
