Bird in a Cage
English/EN:
Bird in a cage,
yearns not always for boundless knowledge, to soar and roam unfettered through the skies.
But, when it does, will there ever be a chance?
Even if so, will the journey be seamless?
Even if so, will it bear fruit?
Even if so, will the soul truly feel, savor it?
Even if so, still, blood may drip everywhere,
drops touching the ground, seeping into the earth.
Grateful still if it can stand,
with trembling wings and quivering legs.
With whatever strength remains,
how long can it endure?
Even gasping for air becomes a struggle,
the echoing sound faintly reaches here.
Amidst the chaos of uncertainty from every direction,
will it be fortunate enough to escape,
the sharp gaze of predators,
or the silent bullets of the hunter’s rifle?
And if, only by some mercy, it survives a little longer,
before its final breath falls, just like any other being,
what it has done, what it has become,
has it been right in the eyes of Him,
the One who defines right and wrong, the All-Truthful and Wise?
Then, what of me? What of you?
For now, you may grimace, if you wish.
Later, you still may.

Burung dalam sangkar,
tak selalunya berhasrat untuk meneguk pengetahuan tak terbatas, mengangkasa.
Namun, kalau ia sedang bermimpi,
adakah miliki kesempatan?
Kalau-kalau begitu,
adakah penerapannya mulus?
Kalau-kalau begitu,
adakah hasil teraih?
Kalau-kalau begitu,
adakah dirasakan, dinikmati jiwanya?
Kalau-kalau begitu,
darah mungkin jatuh menitik ke sana kemari,
di sana sini,
tetesannya menyentuh daratan,
merembes ke dalam tanah.
Syukur-syukur jika masih sanggup berdiri,
dengan sayap dan kaki yang mungkin gemetaran.
Sisa-sisa tenaganya,
cukup untuk bertahan berapa lama lagi?
Untuk menyambung napas saja,
terengah-engah sudah,
terdengar samar hingga ke sini.
Di tengah kekacauan ketidakpastian yang datang dari segala arah,
akan cukup beruntungkah ia,
untuk selamat dari sorot tajam mata predator,
atau proyektil peluru senapan pemburu?
Sekiranya, syukur-syukur sanggup bertahan sedikit lebih lama,
sebelum akhirnya tiada juga, sama saja seperti insan yang lain,
apa yang telah dilakukannya,
apa yang menjadikannya menjadi sosoknya sekarang,
apakah itu telah benar menurut-Nya,
Sang Empunya Benar dan Salah,
Sang Maha Benar dan Bijaksana?
Lalu, bagaimana dengan aku,
dan kau?
Sekarang, kalau memang rezekimu, kau boleh meringis, kalau mau.
Nanti pun mungkin masih bisa.
