Bird Hunters

I Just want to rest
                                  from my long migration
                                    Find a sweet oasis

                                  Many nets and traps
                                 full of dying songbirds
                                     adorn the route

                                     An army culls us
                                millions migrating south
                                hunted to extinction.

                                  Will silence replace
                            The birdsong each morning
                                     Remember us.

Reminds me of Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring". I am in agreement with what Peter has stated just below.

It would be terrible to live without birds and I recently signed a petition to stop birds being hunted. So I hope my poem hits a note. Best wishes Linda x

Great poem, Linda, sad in its truth, but still deeply expressed, and enjoyable. Check out some of mine. Peace.

How sad for those little birds!!! The last line is so fitting.
