Notes About The Poem

_{This poem is in memory of William H. He had Down Syndrome. He once told me that he didn't like being this way. He was referring to his Down Syndrome. Having the self awareness of his own Down Syndrome has followed me with wonder all these years since. "Chile" being an African American and southern expression for child. POTW (12/22/24 and POTD 12/23/24) I am surprised at the attention this poem is getting WOW!}

Billy

You are a brother
And a son, special gifts
For you are known, shown

You are a child
And a man sang "Kumbaya"
"Come by here, O' Lord"

As if to forecast
His love to a family
You held together

In its time of need
Things amazing this poet
If you did know it

You a gift from God  
As only He could style
As He opens wide

His arms you greet Him 
with your smile, His chile
Be free now Billy

My granddaughters’ step sis is a shaken baby and the sweetness and hugs along with exuberance is so touching. I look forward to meeting all these souls (incl. memory care locked) in heaven, to rejoice with them. Also I had an Uncle Bill who died at 25 so the name! Congrats on POTW…sorry I’m late! God bless!
