Big Lie, Big Fall
Was it a dream or was it a nightmare?*
Was it to keep or was it something to share?
Does it really matter? Or should I even care?
There was no fear or stress. So, let's call it a dream.
This dream I had was so sad as to send a sizzling sigh;
I heard this solemn voice as I was falling from the sky.
Many words were spoken, but I understood but a few.
The words were alive, and as fresh as the morning dew.
Somewhere between space and time, I heard these lines.
A five syllable, four worded sentence rang large in my ears.
As I was falling through the misty clouds, I felt no threat, but
yet, there were tears. And I shall never forget those words:
BEWARE THE BIG LIE.
For a few generations, she had been like a succulent sandwich,
Tasty and most desirable, bridging great waters both east and west.
Was he a king or was she a queen; or just a John Doe or Mary Jane?
No matter the status or gender, whether royalty or commoner like us:
Was it a nation; was it me or you, or maybe someone we both knew?
Her fortunes now withered; she had become a 'misfortune'. Like
an abandoned sparrow I once knew, he sat by an old abandoned
roadway, openly exposed with a saddened face and soiled hands.
A face no longer engaging, but to be gazed upon, and hands only
to be frowned upon; but never to be touched.
Like a magnanimous sweet-hearted queen, she
had risen to greatness, power, and global respect.
Now barely recognizable by any who knew him,
He felt insecure, and his fears mounted; merely
because all of his once-upon-a-time friends had
abandoned him, finding no good use for him anymore.
Having been abused, accused, and outwitted, she looked confused.
There was no one to blame because she knew the game better
than most. Her past 'goodness' was now forgotten, and now, she was the one to be pitted. He had accepted the big lie:
"CLOSE THE DOOR TO YOUR PAST.
YOU DON'T NEED GOD ANYMORE".
