Big Kid

He called me big kid
The fire lit in me, he did

We met through a mutual friend
He was shooting pool, I was avoiding men

Beginning to enjoy my single fate
Ironically he asked me for a date

He was charming, arrogant and fun
I was distant not wanting to date anyone

"Only if your birthday is June fifth," I said
He showed me his license, it was, I ran instead

The date was of an ex, who was selfish and hurtful
Evasive, secretive, manipulative and deceitful

It’s no wonder why I had my guard up with him
If he was anything like my ex, getting involved would do me in

At first, we were just friends, I insisted
He continued to pursue me as I resisted

Less time spent together than apart
Should have been obvious it was doomed from the start

I wore brown, he wore black leather
Naturally we were not meant to be forever

The story that prevailed with him and me
Had me confused about my destiny

I learned over time about he and I
We were two different souls that did not see eye to eye

Time in itself does not mean
Lasting true love or the real thing

Once again living single is a blessing
Learning and growing from another life lesson

Where my story goes
Only heaven knows

This almost makes me want to read his poem about the relationship as well. The torment and trauma of life comes through loud and clear in this poem. Great job. Where your story goes...tell us about in prose. :-)
