Big Brother's Promise

For a while our mommy got fat and so grouchy. I didn’t like that! But early one day Dad took mommy away. They came back and her tummy was flat! In her arms there was something so small that I barely could see it at all. I just wanted to hold it. You’d think it was gold! They said, “Don’t let your new brother fall.” You bawled every day with such might you gave our cat, Felix, a fright. It was such a great day When I heard Mommy say, “The baby now sleeps through the night.” Your first smile today was for me. You’re going to be a good buddy. There’s so much that we’ll do. Here’s my promise to you: The best brother ever I’ll be! By Andrea Dietrich/ April 28, 2011 For Miranda Lambert's Contest: "Brotherly Love"

Cute write. I love Limericks, although I always write them singly (I think most English poets do), but your link-up works well here. Hope you are well. xoxo Robert.

This is cute. I have 3 brothers so remember my youngest one being born. GOOD one. I hope the shots helped your arm but if it is a tear then surgery would be the way to fix it. As for arthritis I suffer everyday with it. Keep a massager by the bed so I can get up in the morning. Get so sore and stiff at times. When I am on my feet for more than 4 hours I ache all over. Need a desk job. ha ha

What a great poem. I could envision the older brother having these thoughts about a younger brother. Especially having 4 sons myself. Thanks for sharing.

Aw, that's cute, Andrea. Older siblings get disturbed by infants who cry through the night. Nice viewing this through the big brother's eyes. Best wishes in the contest. (The "stop" was a flatline from clogged arteries.) Love, Carolyn
