Bickerstaffe

Never angling for a laugh
I call myself just 'bickerstaffe;'
an English clan devoid of fame,
a plain and simple family name.

I mused, then through the ages cast
in hopes to find a storied past
to find my folk had expertise
in cultivating honey-bees.

I prize my humble pedigree
and praise the noble honey-bee
for all the sweetness that it brings
(if I can just avoid those stings!)

beautiful phrasing. Rolls right off the tongue the way all your writes do. I see where Carolyn picked up on your heritage now in her tribute:)

G'morning keith! Wow..a very sweet and clever write.:) You do well to "praise the noble pedigree" for "honey" has always been the nectar of poets and writers, and a sustenance for peons and royalty, alike. I hope you're having a grand weekend!! Best to you and yours! Love and hugs, Mikki

This is great! I think exploring ones family tree and finding it to be full of honey is a pretty sweet deal! Congratulations, honey bees create great health and much wealth! Honey is so healing and the wax can be used in so many ways. Yes, every part of nature has its purpose... your family was smart to get in on this deal! Keep Shining! Smiles from Lolita

P.S. There was a polygamist in my family tree, but also a Civil War sea captain. Guess we just have to smile and press forward.

I tell you, Sir, there is a knight somewhere in your pedigree ... you could match his lance against the bee (smiles). Witty ending, Keith, sobering humility.
