Beyond the Sea

Beyond the sea an enchanted place lies
With fairies, and mermaids, and fireflies,
And other creatures you will rarely see 
An enchanted place lies beyond the sea.

I yearn to travel where fantasy reigns
Sunbeams are forever, and it never rains
Exquisite mysteries for me to unravel,
Where fantasy reigns, I yearn to travel.

To places beyond my wildest dreams go
While I am fast asleep, I do not know,
Miracles can happen at the wave of a wand
My wildest dreams go to places beyond.

I shall sing and dance with merry maids
At fairytale parties, we will play charades
While dragons and giants look askance,
With merry maids, I shall sing and dance.

Well, I think this is only my second one, but they are rather neat. I've always been fascinated by the ocean and one of my favorite things is looking out at the horizon, especially during sunset.

Just keep in mind that I've been writing for about seventy years, taught creative writing, married an English teacher and...what is it they say...practice, practice, practice? Also, I generally try out something two or three times before I actually list a poem with it. I wrote a similar "swap quatrain" the first one of Emile's I read. I sort of learned the rubric and followed it. It works for me.
