Beyond the Niceties of Christmas

Oh Christmas where can I find you,
in Bethlehem or under my light filled tree? The star of long ago still shines once more. I give one special gift to you as they did in the manger. They brought Jesus gifts to welcome His birth,
Gold, Frankincense and Mir. My gift may not be expensive,
but it comes filled with love.

What a shame Santa's bag has been filled,
with greed and envy disguised as toys. The stores are filled with shiny new toys for all ages,
young to old, for all good girls and boys.
The stores think dollars, let's make the sale,
it does not matter if you go to hell.

Christmas celebrations are a time for family and friends,
to gather for the day. A day to talk and say I Love, I care. We never know if our family and friends,
will be with us for the next Christmas celebration.
So do not delay,
Christmas will be over before you know it.

Paula, you see it as it really is. I wonder how many really remember (in our Western culture) what we are truly meant to be celebrating. Christmas is the birth of our Lord and saviour. It is not who outshines the Jones's, least of all who outshines siblings -v- siblings and families -v- families for the biggest, the brightest and best. Your poem is a stark reminder of the reality of it all. All that glitters is not gold. Beautiful poem, with strong message. Leanne x.

Thank You, for your beautiful message. It should be about Jesus. Above I wrote "We never know if our family and friends will be with us for the next Christmas celebration," because my brother just passed away. It has been a hard time. Happy New Year 2020.........
