Beneath Amethyst Skies

in the depths of my mind i still see you there you aged with grace like the flight of swan on the horizon of amethyst skies as they blend crimson beneath the setting sun i saw your wings fold falling silent against your chest as you took your last whispered breath beneath the featherless shadows of time leaving me alone stranded on the sands that death robs when the hourglass of time stops i still count the grains washed upon the shores as the ocean lashes back in salted sprays upon my sunken face i look back as my footsteps fade beneath the rhythm of its calmer waves realizing i stand alone breathless in the expansion of mind's hold

Absolutely beautiful, sadness and loss somehow become a thing of beauty when presented in your ink. I believe I wrote a poem with a similar title, I will have to look. But I am sure it doesn't hold a candle to yours. I loved this.

Photographs are not enough to sustain that longing of a lost loved one. But memories help as does writing a poem honouring spirit of our loss. Beautiful Sandra! xxoo

Great lines: as the ocean lashes back/ in salted sprays/ upon my sunken face/ So sad and unreal when loved ones die. My Aunt would fly and visit grandkids..so alive and then she wasn’t. Love the write.

I can't decide which is my fave expression, but horizon of amethyst skies, that's a special one, few write free verse like you do. The hints of nature are so appealing even though it has a melancholy tone to it!
