Being Judged By a Fellow Poet

 

Being judged is rough,
I start to wonder,
did I do it right,
will the judge like it ! 

The judge may be published,
and have excellent writing credentials.

Or be just like me,
a Premium member who does contests, 
yadda, yadda !

I have been in the soup a long time,
been humbled over the years,
Is a win the ultimate goal?
Or is it the writing that stirs my soul.

I think, I shall enter and take a chance,
after all what is the worst that can happen ?
Oh yes, a non-placement could be my reward,
but so what, I still wrote and loved doing it ...

Kim Rodrigues August 17, 2024 at 2:09 PM It is not that you don’t get upset at an NA or low on the liter board, however walk away for few minutes. We are all poets here. The comraderie is important and we learn from each contest we do. Great to be a judge because you realize it isn’t that easy and you love each poem that wins. NAs can hurt if it's a poem we truly have given our all to, but it's just one person's opinio and it doesn't matter a bit. Constance La France August 19, 2024 at 4:01 AM Andrea, thank you for the compliment, yes, not placing can hurt if you let them, but I choose to not let them effect me, once I learnt to accept the NA's and the placements as part of my writing journey, and now I write for the love of writing, once you can do this, you can just relax and enjoy, Constance

Lin Lane August 17, 2024 at 12:46 PM Sweet friend, writing what we need to convey, whether it be about the songs of doves, or depth of sorrow is what confident poets do to please ourselves. It's sugary when our creations are appreciated by others in contests or not. I've no bittersweet taste when one of my poems is not placed. Your lines reflect my own thoughts in that if I am content with what I've written, " I still wrote and loved doing it ..." to borrow your words. That painting is exquisitely realistic. I like the contests for the variety of themes and forms they offer. And its great to be recognized, but if not it is still great to have a poem to add to my collection that I loved writing and will cherish,
