Bedtime
The daylight fades
Limbs heavy and weary
Energy spent
Bones, muscles and sinews
Achingly needing rest
Bathtime ritual sacrosanct
Unguents and potions
Limbs and face smothered
Skin clean and fragrant
Mattress inviting
Slumber beckons
Fertile dreams await
Head on silk pillow
All plumped and warm
Eyelids heavy
Daily drudgery forgotten
Rhythmic calmed breathing
Slowing of mind
Thoughts pass through
Rather than linger
Like clouds blown by a breeze
Sounds fade in the distance
Today’s cares wash away
I am ready to embrace sleep
For tomorrow is another day
