Because Ignorance Is Bliss
Please do not laugh; yes, I am “woke,”
Volumes I’ve cried because ignorance is bliss,
That our social studies are demonstrably broke
When realities of our past we coldly dismiss.
Children won’t understand what’s amiss
For realities of the past must not be spoke
They are told our history is not to reminisce,
Please do not laugh; yes, I am “woke.”
How desperately we need to fix what is broke
While failure to do so is a most harmful remiss
By many who are following the orange bloke
Volumes I’ve cried because ignorance is bliss.
Purveyors of truth and justice are subject to diss
Issues from our dirty past are donning a cloak,
I fear this generation will, unfortunately, miss
That our social studies are demonstrably broke.
Believing we bear no blame is a harmful joke
When the old, social isms never seem to desist,
There are reasons institutions go up in smoke
When realities of our past we coldly dismiss.
Politicians soliciting our support with a wry kiss
Behaving like they have been snorting coke
Banding together for the vote, you get the gist,
Promoting some wild ideas to scare our folk.
Please do not laugh.
