Beauty

If the rose could speak
would it orate of her own beauty
or having heard enough of ours
content then with just her flowers
for true beauty need only self be
as time no concern of eternity

Yet her fragrance intoxicating
as Narcissus at the Vintaging Pool
will true beauty never
transcend her own inherent rule
for beauty sake
be her own habitual fool

outstanding...a masterpiece!! Liked the wisdom in these words: for true beauty need only self be as time no concern of eternity You've outdone yourself with this one.

This is blooming great, Joe. That second stanza is pure perfume on paper. Lovely. ~ Gershon

Good poem with great metaphors, I enjoy these thoughts. I wonder if a stringy weed feels as beautiful as a rose.

Hi Hilda; maybe? An interesting question. In light of what I do to them in my garden, I hope they do not have feelings. Blessings my friend. Thank you.

The Rose will surely stay content with what others say of her beauty. It won't gloat over it as Narcissus did. Beauty is eternal and the image of the rose will stay for ever though it may fall and wither in time. Great poem, dear Joe.
