Beautiful Blue Morpho

Oh gorgeous blue butterfly from Peru, My daughter's gift she brought back cased in glass, You cheer my heart each time I gaze at you. Your life cut short, it is a shame, alas, Yet you live on eternally you see Because forever in your case you keep And I will pass you down to family. Into their hearts too, your beauty will creep. In my mind's eye I see you soaring free Within the forest flora where you roam Flitting flower to flower happily, You have a place of honor in my home. You remind me that after death's cold claim Your tiny spirit still retains its flame. 10-4-19 ~Second Place~ Writing Challenge, October - Butterfly- Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Dear Heart- Wiishkobe Ode

Connie, dear Connie, yet another fave that has me fighting back the tears. I think the blue morpho is my favorite of all the butterflies so I was naturally drawn to your sonnet. But then your poetic and philosophical heart comes out to bring comfort... "You remind me that after death's cold claim Your tiny spirit still retains its flame." That is what anybody wants after they have journeyed to the next world, to be remembered as a spirit whose flame still burns. Gorgeous, wonderful fave ~ John

A lovely write Connie. It reminds me of a place called Butterfly people in PR. They created breath taking art work from butterflies.

Butterflies' lives are so short that preserving them in a case allows you to share their beauty with future generations. Your sonnet has a very nice meter and you allowed us to see the Blue Morpho through your eyes. Beautifully done, Connie. A fave for me and surely a winner. Hugs, Carolyn

It is heartening to know that a lifeless butterfly is still capable of inspiring such a delightful poem, Connie! That is why your final line gains extra meaning: "Your tiny spirit still retains its flame". Belated congrats on your win. Regards // paul

Very nice work, Connie. Truly, a thing of beauty is a joy forever. The beauty of it, brought alive in our mind’s eye serves to provoke and remind the generations, for we are doomed when we forget.

Connie, What a refreshing Sonnet. Your daughter's wonderful gift shared down through the ages now. The Blue Morpho reminds me of the movie "Papillon" with Dustin Hoffman. Though I don't know why. -Richard

Hello Connie … a shame that a life of beauty is over, however, how death occurred who would know, but to have such beauty to admire and not left to disappear remains in our hearts and from there to pass on through generations - gosh your stories are great Connie - Lindsay
