John, although I was unsure about one thing, I just had to give this a top win for being so GOOD with the bearded snow image! When you say the cities cold, do you mean cities' (like many cities)? congrats for your win. Also loved the clever way you described dawn as receding darkness.

Thanks Andrea for another interesting tanka torture. The "cities" line could have gone either way as all the cities in New England got buried in record snowfall this winter.
