Back When I Was Nice
Back when I was nice,
I gave things away--
A smile,
A word,
My heart
But not anymore.
Back when I was nice,
I took things in--
A cat,
A word,
A friend
But not now.
Back when I was nice,
things were different--
I was better,
bolder,
younger--
Life was fresher,
bigger,
deeper--
And it was easy,
Back when I was nice.
