Babies We Rock

Little feet a button nose
Chunky thighs and piggy toes
Untainted by this day and age
Sadly, it's not a lengthy stage
Naive enough to remain serene
Honest, pure, a beautiful green
Why must the best things fade away
Children grow and too often they stray
Nothing we can do to stop the clock
Time is not wasted on babies we rock

Hello Anna. Maureen McGreavy once suggested that I should look you up and read your poetry. I'm happy now to find myself reading your 1st PoetrySoup submission. WOW Anna you rock!!! To me the sadness is not the length of the stage BUT the possibility of what might fade & stray away. I never got to rock my son when he was young BUT now being with him, when I can, at age 22 he's an amazing drummer in a band AND man does he rock !!! Thank you for making me think Anna. Such a wonderful poem...

Anna: I think I'm newer than you. :o) I've read more poetry here in the last week than I've read in any week in my life. I suspect we are both "hooked" by this site. I can tell you as a grand dad of 10 your lovely piece brought tears as I have growing fears for our young folks today. (no rhyme intended) Reading to your kids is a gift no one can take away.
