Away In a Garage

Away in a garage
My car felt alone.
And she was frightened
Wanting to come home.

She has a phobia
Of mechanical men.
She will break down
If she sees them again!

Like doctors to humans,
Apprehension's within.
Though they're there to help us
They get under our skin.

My car was so frazzled
She was shedding her paint!
If she were a person
I'm sure she would faint.

But after persuasion
A service was done...
This time next year
This will have begun.

This is so funny, fear from the perspective of a car. That poor thing. Do you remember the children's movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? I'm dating myself, but your poem made me think of that movie slightly, it was about a car that had a personality too. My husband ran a service station for a few years, and he would get a kick out of this poem. To your brave car, "There is still hope"

Lol... I love chitty chitty bang bang. I first saw it when I was about 7 and so I got a shock 5 years later when I saw how old dick van dyke was! I love the part where Truly pretends to be a doll. At the kings party. And how Van Dyke acts his part too. Simply brilliant:-D this was a fun poem to write. It was for a contest a while back. Glad you enjoyed. Hope your husband enjoys it too. All the best x

Mechanical men… love it… if only Arnie came back to fix cars. I know that’s not what you meant, but it gave me a giggle. I don’t see why cars shouldn’t fear the spanner man as we fear the tooth doctor. Congrats on your win, Natasha. Terry

Hi Tania, thank you. I think the tune lends itself to humour quite well. :-D
