Autumnal Moods

Trees shed their leaves
red gold and yellow
Autumnal moods
translucently mellow
Morns feel cold
a bite in the air
Hedgerows laden
with winters fare
Squirrels muster
their winter larder
hiding their cache
so full of fervour
Whilst Hedgehogs
rummage through
piles of logs
‘tis time for hibernation
in their new accommodation
When winter sends
her first snowflake
so snug and cosy
they will not wake
Swallows gather
to journey south
their call goes out
by bird of mouth
A time to sleep
to slow right down
As winter frosts
freeze all around
All humankind
with curtains drawn
a roaring fire
to keep them warm
And so this year
comes to an end
a stranger year
can’t comprehend

Your poem radiates with autumn's glories, my friend. Yes, one can't comprehend a stranger year than this one, but nature always helps to attenuate life's frustrations. Hugs ~ John

Dear Ann, every day is hard, but the anniversaries and the holidays can be the hardest. My heart goes out to you. I hope you are able to derive some peace from looking up to the planets and stars, the sunrise and sunset, meteor showers, and of course, our beloved Luna. Creation is a healing balm. Hugs ~ John

Thank you dear John for your lovely words I do appreciate your kindness and support, especially at this time as last weekend was a year since my son passed, so I have been unable to write much really, as I am feeling so empty and low. I wrote this last night very late as I could not sleep, tho wishing I could hibernate too at this moment... with kindest thoughts Ann xx
