Autumnal Moods
Trees shed their leaves
red gold and yellow
Autumnal moods
translucently mellow
Morns feel cold
a bite in the air
Hedgerows laden
with winters fare
Squirrels muster
their winter larder
hiding their cache
so full of fervour
Whilst Hedgehogs
rummage through
piles of logs
‘tis time for hibernation
in their new accommodation
When winter sends
her first snowflake
so snug and cosy
they will not wake
Swallows gather
to journey south
their call goes out
by bird of mouth
A time to sleep
to slow right down
As winter frosts
freeze all around
All humankind
with curtains drawn
a roaring fire
to keep them warm
And so this year
comes to an end
a stranger year
can’t comprehend
