In autumn when the woods are shades of red,
wind scatters the reddish leaves overhead.
Falling seeds fain to heaven's moist rain spreads
to swell the earth, and plump latent seedbed.
Wind scatters the reddish leaves overhead;
sweet kernels longing; to set budding more
to swell the earth, and plump latent seedbed.
Its fruitfulness with ripeness to the core.
Sweet kernels longing, to set budding more;
squirrels bound across trees, hedge-crickets sing.
Its fruitfulness with ripeness to the core,
finches, redpolls, crossbills cache seeds that spring.
Squirrels bound across trees, hedge-crickets sing,
scamper away not seeing where they stir.
Finches, redpolls, crossbills cache seeds that spring
in beauty of nature that comfort her.
Scamper away not seeing where they stir,
falling seeds fain to heaven's moist rain spreads;
in beauty of nature that comfort her,
in autumn when the woods are shades of red.
