Autumn Days
Leaves morphing from green to gold,
vermillion, bronze, mahogany.
Twirling, waltzing, floating, lying.
Autumn’s colour festival parade,
trees competing for the finest show.
Branches shiver, grey, forlorn,
sad to lose their emerald cloak.
Squirrels busy packing winter store,
hedgehogs scuttle to winter bed,
scent of bonfires drifts on breeze.
Sun lowering, last rays of warmth,
delivering her summer’s swansong.
Ethereal mists, dew sparkling grass,
richly aromatic spice-box of earth,
summer blooms take their final bow.
Thoughts turn to chestnuts, cosy fires,
hot chocolate, marshmallows toasted,
country walks gathering nature’s jewels.
Blackberry jam, apple crumble, soothing
a gradual transition to winter’s chill.
