Death took you like a sneak thief
Just before Autumn gold appeared
The time of year your soul revered
Proving that life is all too brief
The loss too vivid to comprehend
My beautiful gracious lady friend
O magic of a single Autumn leaf
The beauty of your soul in heaven rests
Away from strife and life’s tempests
It isn’t enough to quell my grief
But your memory lives in my heart
Especially in Autumn’s works of art
Death took you like a sneak thief
Proving that life is all too brief
O magic of a single Autumn leaf
It isn’t enough to quell my grief
Dedicated to Connie Marcum Wong
A beautiful friend and Mentor who I will always miss.
Written in the Constanza poetry form.
Constanza, a poetry Form created by our very own Connie Marcum Wong, consists of five or more 3-line stanzas. Each line has a set meter of eight syllables. The first lines of all the stanzas can be read successively as an independent poem, with the rest of the poem weaved in to express a deeper meaning. The first lines convey a theme written in monorhyme, while the second and third lines of each stanza rhyme together. All the first lines are added as a monorhyme at the end.
Rhyme scheme: a/b/b, a/c/c, a/d/d, a/e/e, a/f/f, aaaaa. 5 TRIPLETS, (15 LINES), FOLOWED BY A 5 LINE MONORHYME. SEE EXAMPLE BELOW.
