Autumn Sadness
AUTUMN SADNESS
The leaves cry in the early morning sun
And can no longer respond to her kisses,
Their lips are shriveled and dry
Branches are darkened
The hopes of summer are dashed to the ground
Ground underfoot
The summer tree’s glorious crown golden is robbed
And turned to dust, dead, shredded,
As a child’s handful of gold coins is knocked to the floor,
And he weeps: unconsolable under his mother’s caress.
