Attenuate

If I should happen to attenuate my appellation, it would then become an article.

Dear Anne, a wonderfully clever, brilliant little wordplay puzzle. Such a dry, sophisticated wit in using four-syllable Latinate words like attenuate and appellation just to perform a neat trick of linguistic subtraction, trimming a name down until only a grammar particle remains. Good Luck in the contest! Blessings, Daniel
