He's sitting in the sand In his right hand A little stone, he lifts it high Left hand fingers fly. He lets his tongue taste the weather on his skin Intense sensation of sunlight felt so warm within He sings a song in words meaningless, unheard Sun plays in his hair It likes it there Children play around him, wonder, frown Sometimes a question there Lands nowhere He lets his tongue taste the words and sound Rolling behind his teeth, savouring all around They play alongside Most together, he outside Attempted communication Inadequate investigation His eyes strafe past Too fast Observes from corners of his eye What do they do, and why? He lives inside but knows there is outside Incomprehensible, no matter how hard he tries *** April 13, 2017 Copyright © Darren White

You have a wonderful gift of bringing the reader into your world through poetry to 'see' and 'feel' loss in a way that genuinely changes lives. We are guided by your soulful words that enlighten and empower each of us, with an awareness and understanding we can put to good use in our own lives and communities. A profound write, beautifully expressive in ways that matter most: heart, spirit and love. It is a pleasure to read your poetry Darren:) lynnxxx

Darren, this is a deeply touching poem. You managed to make us see and feel from different perspectives what it is like to be trapped trying to find a way out. Amitiés

Anne-Marie, thank you, if I managed to do that, to make you see and feel, then I succeeded :)

You transcended his feelings of loss of words into yours. Trapped without being able to express is difficult...Thanks for this beautiful piece.

Oh to be different ..You described so well how others will look at someone out of their stereo-type..Waiting for him to see their world with their eyes, never trying to see his world with his eyes. How demanding a world can be.I am touched Darren..I have misty eyes nw.

Being different is indeed like this... It's forever trying to fit into a world that is not meant for you. Thank you my friend :)

Man Darren...this is too sad. This poem, like all that you write, really expresses the emotions you are seeing in your mind as if I am standing there, watching this entire thing play out. Talk about grabbing and squeezing someone's heart. Your poems are more than poems to me, they are real, they jump from the page and we become one with them. They live and breathe and cry and laugh. This was outstanding.

Chris, Iam at a loss for words. You made me teary-eyed in a good way. If that is what my poems do to you, I feel proud :) That you can see yourself there watching! Thank you so much my friend.

This one is very touching my friend! I spent half my day with a little boy called Zack today who has autism, this reminds me of him a lot! But once he does get outside, man, is it hard to get him back in! Precious.
