Asteroid Gravity Graced

Asteroid You were out of this world named for the Perseids the meteor that exploded in two striking the blue between the sun and the moon the massive spark an exclamation mark that punctuated perfectly my “hey we’re going to see some awesome...” fireworks tonight and a week later Gravity led me to you all arctic and wolfy all wild and white a firecracker alright You were out of this world a brilliant light in my life for fourteen years Graced after you died I learned a meteor had streaked that very same sky the same day my gift from the heavens the heavens reclaimed Asteroid 2000-2014 8.13.2020 Composed for Constance La France’s All Pets Go To Heaven Poetry Contest

Thank you Deepa! Asteroid was a she, I got an idea where that “b“ word got it’s use, giggles, her nicknames was “Megab****”. I seem to like my dogs female, and my doves male... my old birds are named “Loverboy” and “Prince Charming” ;), A wonderful day to you my friend! xomo

Thank you Anne-Lise. She was my first, I found it was the count down from 8 weeks... I rather like not knowing how old my present dog is, she’s getting up there, but every day is a gift. Hugs! xomo

Pidge, I just adore how you wrote this, framed by the three words in your title and interconnecting the themes of light, meteors, firecrackers, and all the celestial references of sky, world, sun, moon, gravity. Like your beloved dog and you were meant to orbit around each other. Beautiful, soulful writing, my friend. A fav for the archives ~ John

You said it was so and so it was. 'all arctic and wolfy..all wild and white' - Such a worthwhile cause to take up for 14 turns 'round the sun. And such a fine tribute to the 'brilliant light in my life'. -Richard

Thank you Richard. I was owned by a wolf dog, now I own a dog; it is so much easier, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. I am a serial dog owner now, and I work with dogs, thanks to her. Have a wonderful day! xomo

Maureen an amazing bright and shining star in your array of poetry!!! I love how the title (something YOU taught me about) makes this poem so tight and one within itself. Pardon, but it made me think about "alignments"; gravitational pull, BUT most certainly about Mark Twain and Halley's comet. If needed to remember Mark Twains' age at death: he was born and died on the arrival of that comet every 75 years. Maybe I'm throwing in unrelated facts reading your poem, but Maureen, this works for me.

So true about Twain. He made some sort of comment about how two oddities came into the world the same day; so they should also go out the same. 75 years later Haley's Comet came back and left; as did Twain.

Rose, how sweet. Mi Musa just rescued a very sweet and intelligent Border Collie named Sade, and I told her the same, "He was fated to be saved by you." Videos and photos I've seen show the love in his eyes.

I did not know that but it’s relevance is sparkling! We were fated her and I, I know that. And my second dog too. Have I mentioned my love of “The Little Prince”? ...my second came with the name Rose. ;),
