Ascension
Far beyond imaginations edge,
I hear a voice that speaks my name.
Moving to approach the ledge -
My hands are bound; my feet the same.
Crumpled in a heaving heap,
I worm my way up to the brink.
And just about to take the leap,
I pause to let my matter think.
There sounds a clap;
I've made a move;
Yet body stays on ground.
I see me as I'm floating through
Space and time and sound.
What once was chaos now is calm;
Emotions cease to be.
What once was bound with jagged rope,
Is now completely free.
I close my eyes and take deep breath;
Listen with intent.
There are no sounds or feelings now;
Only silence and regret.
Regret is brief then disappears,
My bones no longer ache.
Although I miss what went before,
I'm so at peace with fate.
This is where I'm meant to be-
I've known it all along.
My vision is so clear now,
My 'heart' beats rich and strong.
I know that I'm in heaven here,
I feel it more than see,
It flows through pores, envelopes limbs,
But looks like Earth to me.
