As the last Petal Falls Poetry Contest

When Death comes knocking at the door, And as the last petal finally falls, My voice will be stilled. My heart, now ticking off like a clock, Will ever be silent. My foot falls shall no more be heard All my songs will be stifled in the throat All my crazy thoughts will be frozen, And I shall take leave of all And the whole lot of petty things I hold dear. But what difference does it make? The earth will continue to spin as before. The stars will illumine the night sky. Days will follow days in endless succession. Time, chanting the refrains of joy and sorrow, On wings, shall fly to destinations unknown. Will there be anyone to grieve my absence? Will my sons ever miss their Mama? Will my loved one still hold me close to his heart? May be for a while A short little while But as years glide, And my tomb lies over grown with weeds And the engraving on my head stone Fades out in morbid grime and moss, When I merge with the dust as dust, When I lie inert, a rattling heap of bones under the sod, When my spirit still hovers around in vain With insatiable longing for all your love, Then give me, my Lord! A ride in your chariot! Remove from my spirit the languor of endless waiting! Carry me to Thy bosom! Embalm me with Thy love, That I shall no more crave for earthly love And with you in bliss, ever united Look down evermore content As the wheels roll down to Eternity!

Ahh!! So, we all hope that our death will be one that will be easy, peaceful and a meeting with the Savior that we all love. This one reads like a good contender for the contest to me. Way to go. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

"Carry me to Thy bosom! Embalm me with Thy love," -- with all the faith espoused, death yet indeed a quivering mystery for the loving heart. Thoughtful, profound write.

Lovely rendition of Divine Love. I enjoyed the simplicity of expression. I liked the phrase - give me a ride in your chariot : such a beautiful childlike expression: loved this . Xx

Dear Valsa, your poem is a deeply moving reflection on mortality, love, and the passage of time. The imagery is beautifully woven, capturing both the inevitability of death and the lingering echoes of human longing. The contrast between personal loss and the world's unceasing rhythm is poignant, reminding us of life’s transient nature. The final plea for divine solace and eternal peace adds a spiritual depth that is both profound and comforting. This piece resonates with the universal human experience, making it both personal and timeless. Truly a heartfelt and evocative composition! hugs

Valsa, what a deeply moving poem. You are a precious rose, and your poetry is like soft petals, stirring one's heart with your written words. I am sure the loss of your presence will hurt all those who have loved you and known you, so stick around a long, long time, ok? <3 I see this is written for a contest, it looks like a great contender to be sure. I love the ending, filled with hope and great joy, it will be so lovely to see the Savior! :)

Dear sweet valsa, this is such a profound and deeply moving poem that is so well articulated and delivered! I felt so much reading this. I especially love the lines "Days will follow days in endless succession. Time, chanting the refrains of joy and sorrow, On wings, shall fly to destinations unknown." I think many can resonate with those lines and the ending shows your need for eternal bliss away from the materialism of this world! How spiritual and soulful is this! Best wishes: pleasure reading you today. Sending you light always
