As Expected

It was a routine death- Just expected… Just like the kiss on the bruised knee; The cooked breakfast made to build you up; The magical Christmas presents, Transforming an ordinary life Into a grotto of hopes and dreams. As expected even as the warm hand, Guiding from panic to safety Or the praise for a success gained Or consolation for a stupid mistake. Just expected...no surprise in the least, What can one expect when age corrodes and brings mortality to the brink. No point hanging about with treatment. It’s inevitable. A kindness. Routine arrangements need to be made To be sorted like a wedding ceremony, a christening or birthday party With old pennies wrapped in grease proof paper. Just expected like rain on a spring day, Or lush green exploding with life in May.

That's the truth of it all though. An age comes when even the elderly say "it's time". My great Grandmother was in her 80s and everyone though she was morbid for saying "I'm ready to go home, any day now". But she'd seen so much, lived through so much, her body was groaning and creaking in ways us youthful will never understand unless we reach that point. I only hope to live to an age where I'm comfortable with the idea of wanting to go. There's a beautiful sentiment in that. Well Wrote!
