Sometimes we can go all our lives seeing something without really having any insight into what we are seeing. For instance, hands in prayer position. Because they are praying we assume people will put their hands flat together. It looks very neat and reverent but beyond that not another thought, until recently when I saw a very bright picture of a reflexology chart of the hand, just before I was about to meditate. I don't meditate with my hands in prayer position but I had a sudden connection in my mind between the reflexology chart and the symbol of prayer. Was there some power gained by this action due to the energy fields being directly opposite? I located some of the points on my own hand and stimulated them. I could definitely feel something happening so, I did an inter-net search and sure enough my hunch was substantiated. The article stated about reflex points and noted ," Thus when the hands are brought together, not only are all opposite energies brought to a meeting point, but right in the centre of your hands (the reflex point for the heart) is the centre of your being. The article went on to say, "In placing one’s palms together in front of one’s own heart, there is a point in the middle from where all these opposing tensions of left and right, past and future, male and female, giving and receiving arise - a still point where all opposites meet. This point is also reflected in between the palms of our hands. No matter how hard we try, there is no way that the hands can be placed so flat against each other that there is no space between them. From this point, all thoughts arise and are manifest according to the pressures and conflicts acting between the hands.” It seemed to be a week of sudden insights because as I was lying in the spa in our courtyard relaxing, I looked over at our stag-horn fern which has gown so big it looks like a perfect set of massive green antlers. "Why? I wondered to myself would a fern imitate a set of stag's horns. Later I shared the thought with my husband and he offered the opinion that the stag developed their horns to appear like the ferns, as a kind of camouflage. Of course I thought,"as clear as daylight." From a distance, a stag standing in a forest would blend with the trees and his horns would appear to be like one of the stag-horn ferns protruding from a tree trunk. How many things do we take for granted until the deeper meaning is suddenly revealed- just by asking a simple question?

Nice to hear your thoughts again, Zaynab Yes prayer is calming and uplifting. Just a side note. This really was my Staghorn fern that I grew from a tiny baby. I would feed it on banana skins and it thrived. I left it with the house when we sold and moved over here. SuZ

Very thoughtful write. I found myself putting my hand together in front of my heart, yet there was no space between them, so I didn't get why you said it was impossible in that position. Did I misinterpret something? Very interesting about the stag.

Hi Andrea: It is the center of your palms that form a space. Sending a Soupmail, SuZ

Goodmorning Suz! I Have never used the Didactic form, but it could probably be like a parable or a story with a message. I enjoyed what you wrote here, and yes, we often take things for granted. Isn't that how Newton's relationship with gravity came about thanks to a falling apple! Fortunately even we are gifted with moments of revelation. ~ May I take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy and propserous new year. // paul

Hi Paul Yes from what I could gather it is telling a story in an advisory way. Yes Newton’s apple is a great example. Thanks for the New Year Wishes. Time to start thinking of new Years’ Resolutions. SuZ

I have never written on this form, but have realised, I have written many poems like this.. IT beautifully underscores the importance of questioning and seeking deeper understanding in the everyday. It encourages readers to look beyond the surface, prompting a realization of how many things are taken for granted until a simple question unveils a richer, more profound meaning. The reflective tone and engaging exploration of these insights make your poem a captivating and enlightening read..

I know SO. As little kids we ask so many questions and after a while we tend to think we know most everything. Curiosity is a positive attribute to have and more importantly comprehension to tie everything together, I will see if I can find some of your more reflective poems.

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment, Tom made an interesting point about hands in prayer not being in the New Testament so I found an article about it here. https://applesofgold.com/jewelry/praying-hands-meaning/ I think it is more to do with Eastern religions and Yoga.

This has a very philosophical depth to it,how little things that we do in unison or how. Nature too sometimes shift to camouflage, etc is so very intriguing and soulful. Makes one think. I think if we look around, in nature too we find so many answers to out human behavior too, which often is not looked into in detail. Pleasure always reading your work. Hope Christmas went well, if you did celebrate. Wishing you a blessed new year ahead

Dear Suzanne, this piece really compelled me to dive in deep thoughts, how evocatively you've crafted this... There's so much knowledge and reflection of philosophical wisdom in your words.. And very true, we take many miraculous things in nature as for granted and perhaps, live with misconceptions or now information at all, throughout our lives. Only if we desire to explore more, we will find the many deep reasons behind things.. A brilliant post, loved reading this so much! Sending light~

Suzanne--your poem was thought-provoking. Your words gave me pause as I pondered upon the things around me that I take for granted...that's the magic of finding things in the cloud shapes...sometimes they reveal something deeper. Well done! have a splendid evening, Sara PS I loved this: all thoughts arise and are manifest according to the pressures and conflicts acting between the hands.”

Hi Sara, Lovely to find your comment. Tom bought up an interesting idea as to the origins since it isn’t mentioned in the New Testament. Here is a link to an interesting article about it. https://applesofgold.com/jewelry/praying-hands-meaning/

Interestingly, nowhere in the New Testament does it speak of folding hands in prayer. No doubt another man made tradition. Most of the medical community eschews the pseudoscience behind reflexology. When I look for deeper meaning into existential questions I find all I need in the Holy Bible (not to be confused with Christendom's spin). Anyway, don't take my comment the wrong way. Your piece got me thinking
