Artificial Ink

There was a feathered quill in Shakespeare's hand then he dipped the nib of his pen into a bit of ink That's how poetry was written, verses poetically grand Today, artificial poets use AI and it's causing a stink Humans who would do such a thing must be a bit lazy There can be no accomplishment in calling it their own It's spreading like a virus, driving genuine poets crazy An annoyance, giving reason to complain and bemoan When accusing fingers point, they "deny, deny, deny" Accepting kudos and congrats from members in the group It's lowered the value of poetry and things are awry since AI users post Mr. Robot's technology in the Soup Shakespeare would be filled with contempt and disdain "It's a bane to the community and something to bewail Accepting AI as real poetry is as ridiculous as it is profane!" That's what he would say, and then, "I have need of ale!"

Indeed Lin. I can see him sharpening his quill with his penknife right now to amend a quote of his from Act 2, Scene 12 of Twelfth Night: "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some use that bloody AI." I'll finish by half quoting from Act 5 Scene 1 from As You Like It "A fool who uses AI thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool" Cheers - Gary

Dear Lin, your poem is great and says it like it is. I have reported the poem that was AI generated and won the Souper contest. It’s still sitting on top of the winners list, words fail one in such circumstances… Beryl

Thank you, Beryl. I've given up on reporting anything to admin here. If they refuse to take well-meaning poets who report problems, like they ask, what's the point of wasting my time? Or yours, or anyone's? They turn a blind eye to the wrongs and sometimes punish the innocent instead.

Lin, a great poem and so true. sadly, so many continue to use AI and it's beyond laziness, it's downright deceitful and dishonest. To stoop this low to win a contest.

Yep. You wouldn’t think anyone would dare with all the hoopla and blogs about it. Thanks for commenting, Tania.

True, Jan. There are still flies in the soup but the new pests are like drones, not fearing being caught.

It's a shame it's come to this, actually writing poetry doesn't seem the aim of the game now

No. It’s how to continue doing it and getting away with it. A winner today was analyzed at 100% aI probability.

Thanks a lot, Ilene. Another 1st place winner today found to be 100% AI probability. Contest or not, it’s taking a toll on wanting to post where it’s being accepted
