Arid Earth

And there you stand by the broken brook
the rivers flow you never took
and on the dry bed there
the hand made boat of hope
without repair
still longing for the rivers heart
to keep its untamed bow afloat

And the mouth you used to say those words
empty now of spit and curse
leaves you parched upon the cracked and arid earth

Turn your life into how much you’ve paid
forget about the things you’ve made
they won’t give you the promise of a single sail

A blow of wind to no avail
a courageous gust to fly out into the world
remembered in kisses left now to the softness of their renunciation

But still you hear some distant oceans call
still you feel the love rise and fall
upon the quivering lips of your own confession

By armory the barque of pride and steel
howls a sorry dog at heel
but still this resentment you choose to feel
hides a burglars transit unrevealed
and by a pious imposition
must return to the uncertain
and find no beach on which to rest this ocean

But still you feel some poignant call
still wish the tide to rush you above it all
and finally reach the embrace of loves natural intuition

But the mouth you used to say those words
choking and spitting upon their verbs
by their own throat lay the cuts which lead to silence

Time to be without the stars
time will always carry the scars
time in its time may dream to be of no-one

And there you stand by the broken brook
the rivers flow you never took
and on the dry bed there
the hand made boat of hope
without repair
still longing for the rivers heart
to keep its untamed bow afloat

And the mouth you used to say those words
empty now of spit and curse
leaves you parched upon the cracked and arid earth
