Arewa
Sometimes, when you see the shadows
Of those who left to stay faraway.
You name the stars, and star your names.
They say there is a city somewhere
A city where the breath on people's skin
Don't smell of dirt, or stain their shirts.
A city where everything is beauty-full.
A city where the sun speaks in a voice
That knows how to walk a man's earth.
Arewà, the thorns you found on my bed
Have grown into flowers, smelling nice.
The fire you said blazed on my roof
Now burns blue, in love and freedom
The luxury you craved for in the city
Is now in my barn and my hunting bag.
I miss you when the snows teach me
How to die in summer and stay cold.
I miss you when your daughter cries
And sleeps in my arms, sad and lonely
I miss you when the mirror shows me
What it means to live without beauty.
I saw your shadow again last night.
A proof that we don't die, we multiply.
The city is a whore, let her go
Arewà, come back home.
