Appreciation of Freedom

In this democratic country, there has been discussions of this
A Mosque to be built, near Ground Zero their wish
Through their depths of despair, New Yorkers have spoken out
But democratic they'll be, so proud through their doubt

This is what makes a city, at a time like this
To see past the hate, and allow the neighbourly bliss
The following needs to be confirmed in this country of the free
Freedom for it's people, and to do what desires thee

Where ever this Mosque is built, in the surroundings of city life
Unite it's neighbourhood, never turn to previous strife
Next door could be a butchers, a nightclub or a bar
For their doors will never be closed, they'll always be ajar

In New York City, this metropolis that never sleeps
No longer will it see disaster, no more shall it weep
For if you desire to mingle, appreciation of freedom shall play it's part
Become true Americans, build it's future and be it's heart

James building that mosque would be a sign of. .We are catholics, protestants, christians, whatever. .and we love you muslims, buddhists etc. We are all brothers and sisters,.I know some people are still hurt by losing someone in the September's tragedy, but this mosque is for muslims and not for terrorists. .great message. How are you James?

There are many members of 9/11 victims that will not be able to see past the anger because their loved ones were taken from them so suddenly in the horrific devastation of the Twin Towers. I would like to see more acceptance of other cultures, but my college debate partner was killed on 9/11 and I can't even locate his family now. Out of respect for these families, I feel it would be wise to build the Mosque at another location. Violence could ensue and nobody wants that. Love, Carolyn

All I can say is choose "peace" and not "hate".. Though the hurt from 911 is still incredibly raw, nothing can be gained by hate..we've had too many lessons in this..and as "Christians" we should practice what we have been taught, "Love those who hate you". God never asked us to do his work..bottom line is none of us are in control....and we are ruled by fear! It's always been like this..Great write, James. Love, Audrey

Hello James, Well written however may I just say that I visit Pearl every time I go to Hawaii. The pain is still very real for me and others. Perhaps people on site in New York need a bit more time to heal. As Always, Shar

James, you sure brought your point across and I cant agree with you more.. Even in some other countries, the arguments dont make sense but just to be right they will stay ignorant and fuel talks of war in their quest to supreme.. Of what you may ask? .. Silly me have no idea.. Great write :)

I agree, James, it is ridiculous how some extremists here are making such a big stink about this. they are just hate mongers. And the silly thing is that this mosque is not directly on the site. That would never be right to plant it right THERE where it happened. It's way down the block and around a corner, out of sight. Good grief!
