Apathy's Elected Mayor

Everyone's talking about crime these days
So few police, it seems thuggery pays

No hotter topics than murder or theft
No matter your politics be right or left

Though in Chicago one issue's strictly off-limits for talking heads
Mayoral race apathy - 32.6% turnout - means democracy's dead

I really am at a loss to understand the apathy. I don’t even live there, and 735 deaths upset me and I’d be sure to be working on the campaign for the run off No, never with poets. Life is a big joke to them…and reality.? To be avoided at all costs. Thus we will all be Communists soon and live under mandates. No freedom…only evil people want that, right? Poets hide in the bushes, I think. Pangie.

The apathy, according to those who don't vote in Pilsen, is because 'there is no hope.' And maybe they're right, at least not for their part of the city...

So true . Now, I hear the train company of the Ohio train Derailment is policing the town. Not the town or state police? Bizarre. Good poem Gershon :)

Well said Gershon, and true. I want so much to find that perfect place. I've imagined, building a sweet little artsy city in the middle of nowhere, off an old highway, maybe even revamping an old ghost town and naming it 'Poetown'. Planting beautiful trees and gardens everywhere, naming them in honor of poets and artists of sweet renown, poet trees? Of course, you'd be the mayor, no apathy in the Mayoral office of Poetown :) I know it's a silly, yet nice dream. Someday things will get better, I look to that blessed hope.

Very well said, Gershon. I don't have cable, so I don't listen to the news. There is the internet, but I refuse to read the turmoil out in the world. Shame on me. But my life is like being in a sauna relaxing. I use to live in Chicago for about a year when I was 16, wasn't my cup of tea. I love small little small towns with just 3 blocks of shopping and restaurants, around the corner, doctor's office , post-office, and vet. I mean small. blessings friend

If you can take the isolation of those 3-block towns, they ARE great. I've lived in and near them... but can't do it on a permanent basis... :) gw

That's just sad gw. And then whine because of those in charge? The discontented remain so. Sad. laf :)

That's right, laf. The ones who whine the loudest don't even bother to vote. It figures...
