Another Chance
What I only wished for most was
another chance to see your glance
another chance to see your dance
as I walked in that door.
You came into my life when
we were both young and healthy
we were learning together it was
going to be a great life for us.
Life threw us many harsh twists and
turns so I was incapable of heeding
what you were requiring because
I was struggling too.
I didn’t recognize the severity
or the frailty that came over you
though you tried to show me many
times with your expressive eyes.
Then you lost your ability to walk
and I began to talk; I told you I loved
you, I tried to take better care of you
but was belated in doing so.
I failed my loyal companion and it was an
irreplaceable love lost when I arrived home
too late that somber day as I watched you take
your last breaths and then you went to death.
With the unfathomable and horrific pain
of losing my beloved dog, Rocky,
I cry out everyday Please, God
Another Chance!
