Anguish
Arriving in the middle of the night,
anguish faced me head on,
it woke me up with a start,
a feeling of acute distress
as I recalled jumping off a cliff
and landing into the ocean below,
my body landed into the watery brine,
sinking into a deathly and black abyss,
eventually floating in animated suspension
when I felt something grab my arm
and pull me into a well-lit cave,
I was placed on a bed of seaweed
when I opened my eyes and saw her,
a mermaid creature smiling at me,
at a loss for words I stared at her,
with wispy breath she said it was not
my time to die but to return above
and live my life differently and with hope,
who was she to tell me what to do,
I explained that I wanted my life to end
and that it wasn't her business,
slowly she picked up a bright globe
and passed it over my body
until I was floating backwards and
ended up in my bed relieved it was
a nightmare and that I was still alive,
only to find a piece of seaweed next to me.
