Anger Does Not Cleanse the Wounded Soul

Anger does not cleanse the wounded soul;
Invites no healing to the bosom scarring
By thoughtless word or unintended scroll.

‘Tis more than hurt the mind so marring
Nurtures the malignancy that sears inside
Invites no healing to the bosom scarring—

The constant ache signals the ailing pride
Self-loathing eroding from deep within,
Nurtures the malignancy that sears inside.

More than merely misnomer’d fragile skin
One’s whole being suffers from self-defeat
Self-loathing eroding from deep within.

From crippling anger the soul must retreat
Before the whole personality is eaten alive
One’s whole being suffers from self-defeat.

One so consumed must want to thrive
Anger does not cleanse the wounded soul,
Before the whole personality is eaten alive
By thoughtless word or unintended scroll.

Stellar write, Milt:-) Anger, especially when its bottled, is a corrosive poison that slowly eats away at the soul. Happy Memorial Day, my friend!

Hello L Milton - Wonderful format aside because words will always matter with me. It was your title that caught my eye as I like titles but your words and thoughts kept my attention. As someone who has had my share of life you wrote with knowledge and yes dignity. Well done throughout. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy poetry soup.

Wonderfully written poem dear friend Milton, too much wise advice too, anger can generate many health issues, when we smile we use only 14 of our muscles and when we frown we use 72 muscles. I need to try the terzanelle form; it looks lovely.

Only forgiveness cleanses wounded souls, I found that out in days of old. Anger eats one up inside, your Terzanelle poem Milton is supremely wise… Belle
