An Unforgettable Affair

A modest frame house, on a large corner lot
Is the place where it all began
I mumbled, "She loves me, she loves me not"
Pulling petals, from the rose in my hand

She had flowing black hair, like a wild stallion's mane
Her white skin as soft as down
She was tall and thin, lips full and untamed
With eyes, dark chocolate brown

Her smile was bright, voice dainty and light
When she spoke, the birds hushed their singing
Every wish a command, just to hold her hand
In my ears, love bells were ringing

We spent a year together, I thought love was forever
But soon learned, how quickly love fades
Now those memories are gold, cause we turned six years old
That next fall, we both started first grade

This is just darling...you certainly have a gift of penning 'genuine smiles' and with a final line that has those smiles positively beaming:-) An enchanting poem, joyful to read :-) blessings, lynn
