That shift from the girl to rose on china cup feels so emotionally drastic! This is like a kaleidoscopic rollercoaster, but the metaphor here you have so well executed. Strain eye-disaster.. I think somehow that is resonating for many, for we all have seen grief at some stages of life ~ especially me, with a bruised heart, could definitely resonate. The vulnerability here is so deeply moving, dear Paige! I think you've knitted something so meaningful and full of essence for this contest. Best of luck! These 3 lines are a sensorial teaser, Paige! I'm like Dr Watson raking his mind to find a solution! Often at breakfast time eyes are still tired and strained, and appearance could be 'a sight for sore eyes' (for some women a makeup disaster). The 'oval girl' is tricky ~ egg-shaped figure, or an oval face which I usually find quite attractive! I suppose 'solace' can be found in the beauty of a rose pattern on a china cup. I reckon Sherlock Holmes is shaking his head...😄 ~ Regards // paul

Tears on china is fancy crying. Your meanings are often complex to detect but I like that, you make the reader work for it or take it where they will. I think the breakfast served was a sad occurrence and do wonder if I'm right, but you won't tell me, will you? Poetry Brat, I call you with affection.
