Author's Notes: This poem presents a new walk into the world of imagism with a particular object that represents and symbolizes a defined degree of artistic beauty and metaphorical grandeur. I will have a second view of this same theme that I shall post very soon that was done in direct collaboration with my wife. (Gary Bateman - September 30, 2018) (Imagism)

An Old Copper Vase – A First View

a rustic object
with
a worn-weathered look
symbolizing
both
an artistic beauty
and
a metaphorical grandeur

when filled
with a few
red or yellow roses

it resonates
a certain emotion
and
it presents
and
it paints
an indelible
image and memory
that
cannot be forgotten

this is made
all the more
compelling
by
its rough-rustic nature
and
its physical view
from afar
which is
at once—
defining and dominating
and is
captivating and absolute.

Hi Gary, a most imaginative write comes from your pen. Your descriptive power is always special, you take the reader to the heart of your words. The beauty in your words always shines through and the imagery is always strong. It is so easy to see what your wonderful words paint. Have a wonderful Saturday. Your friend always....Mike.

Gary, copper is a very special element. Like those higher than iron, it’s only made in connection with a supernova or some collision of neutron stars. You have something very special. It’s hard to imagine where all this began and where it is going.

Hello Duke, Many Thanks to you for your read here and for your most prescient comment and observation. I am very glad to hear this. This also points toward why my wife, Ingrid, and I actually did a second view of this theme (beyond this one), with a more extended imagism slant going beyond a precise descriptive view. Best Always, Gary
