An Odd Room

This room is odd…
Do I remember it?
This house is big, but surely…

I have been in this room before
The paintings are odd in subject matter,
Execution: they show things that can’t be.
Or should not be…

They seem to shift and change
from one moment to the next; is it the lightning or the angle?
Hmmm, hard to say.

The furniture is different, strange wood or metals?
I can not say; they remind me of lounging beasts,
creatures, odd, distorted, twisted cruel...
with one eye open, watching me.

Hopefully, they will stay.

Or is that shadow at play…
They are here one moment, there the next, odd, how quear.
I shake my head. Rub my eyes!

Oh, by the way, where is the door?

…is there one or two, I can't tell anymore.
It was midday when I entered…
However, my watch says it's midnight.

?

But by the look of the windows, it's gray noon.
Light falls on these strange rugs like subtle doom.

What a strange room!
It's cold, almost freezing now,
the air is stagnant like a grave at midnight
or is it dawn on a faraway planet?
The windows are disorienting,
they seem to swim…

I can see the driveway,
but the sky is grim,
Stars look closer,
Does the Milky Way seem closer still?

...is that the spine of an unexplored mount?
...or the deep fathoms of an opaque ocean...
with eyes in deep darkness staring into my soul!
...or is that a landscape in the distant future?
Wasted to skyscraper skeletons while stars fall?

Surely not, I must say…is, is that an eclipse
seen behind that window shade?
As windows go, they are bizarre.

I stand before them feeling completely
complexed, a little dazed; I must say…perplexed.
How strange, how odd? Soft lighting blaze...

This room... I have never been to or seen it before,
but it's still the grand manor of my heritage, my family.
I have memories of this place not long ago.

I was born here and raised,
just never seen this room before,
It's similar to the rest, familiar at best.
This lost room drifting on infinite plains
or is that my mind playing tricks on my eyes,
OR am I just insane?

This room is odd; how do I remember it?

This house is huge, of course,
but surely I have been in this room before,
the paintings are odd in subject matter and style.

They show things that cannot be.
Or should not…How odd! I dare not stare.
Something moves over there...

Oh, there is the door!

Where did it come from…
I must go! I will find this room somewhere else, somehow.

I hear my wife calling.
Hey, I’m here. Ahhh! Yes!

Honey! Right away!
I am coming, dear…

Now, where was I…
