an intimate confidant
it is a vigilant path we must tread at times
pull an intimate confidant close, with caring prudence
draw attention to behavior
a gentle tap to the shoulder
please think this over
here we reach into the depths of astute thinking
the true friend who stands not at the ledge
looking down upon some disaster
but into the eyes of a beloved one
who realizes some never fear
to be a friend when others walk away
those who we are told in the wisdom of love
would lay down life in a moment's notice
a true friend remains as such, no matter the price
that devotion comes with discernment, insight
an obligation to each other
times we need to pause and listen
as my mother would tell you
an intelligent man's self-assurance
carries the judgment that he may be wrong
