An Evening By the Lake
Through treed canopy
it's splintered light seeps.
The pale soft glow
of a new full moon.
In the reeds peepers peep.
From the lake comes
the call of the loon.
Water laps on rock
and pebbled shore.
A chorus of crickets
bowing legs seem to sing.
The ground predators
rustle the forest floor.
Somewhere a bell
in the breeze dings.
Rich earth and forest green
moistened with evening dew.
Woodland scents
fill the evening breeze now cool.
Whiffs of smoky campfires
add to this bewitching brew.
I find this view a gift from God
to be a blessed jewel.
In the trees birds chirp
from their nights perch.
Music and laughter issue
from cottages near by.
The star filled sky
my eyes do search.
Such peace brings to me
in reverence a sated sigh
on an evening by the lake.
