Notes About The Poem

An epiphany dawns
Line of inquiry:
“What if life is a lucid dream
Borne by thoughts we ourself did stream
Wherein our designated role
Is to dance atop love’s moonbeam”
It happens when I don’t allow myself
The time to think of what is to be
As I let myself put the past on a shelf
I remember bruises, pain – and fall to my knee
It happens when I feel the dark shadows
Revealing the way fears have taunted me
Silhouettes who’ve haunted, only God knows
There was a time when I was so carefree
It happens when I grasp time that’s passed
Past tears remembered, revealing my soul
What once was, my memories, hopes holdfast
As God tells me His love can make me whole
It happens when I feel the pain settling in
Telling me that even love can’t restore
What has been, the sorrows and the sin
Only His grace and peace comes before…
And I remember what it is to believe
It happens when my heart realizes He relieves
I don’t have any need to grieve
Because His love never leaves…
His love never leaves, so I can see
Past the pain and fear, the tears
Though I feel haunted, I am free
Because He silences all my worst fears
It happens when I think of death
And know that this time on earth will end
In the silence, I feel His gentle breath
Soothing away the darkness like a true friend
He is a friend who will ever be with me
Gentling my tears and restoring my heart
So I can know, whatever is to be…
He is the light whose glow will never depart
He is the light who rises in my soul
Lifting the worries and grief
He brings back what the devil stole
And relieves me with sweet belief
I believe He is the way, the truth, the life
And, because I know Him – I can find
The wonder of a faith that silences all strife
He is the Lord and He is always kind
It happens when I realize He will ever be
The Joy of my soul, the music in the song I sing
The Lord, the Savior, the One who set me free
Listen to the rhythm of the One to whom I cling
The epiphany is that He can take away
All the shadows, the pain, the fear
With Him beside me, come what may
I know that He will bless every tear
