An Emptiness

Stubbornly persisting,
a numbness.
A nagging heartache
after rivulets of tears
have been cried.
A slow-burn grief
lingering in the pit
of the soul.
A tidal wave of pain
stretching
and folding back
on itself.
A gaping hollow
in the heart
that opens up again
after being patched up.
An emptiness akin to
heaven without God,
a vase devoid of flowers,
a shelf with no books,
a water-free well
that only those
who have
experienced loss
can comprehend.
